Test takers are strongly advised to practice IELTS. By giving practice tests, you’ll help your students get to know the test format, experience the types of tasks, test themselves under timed conditions, review their answers and give helpful feedback.

Earning a high IELTS band score requires a strong command of English. However, mastering test strategies can bolster the score as well. Multiple choice strategy, strategic reading skills such as skimming and scanning, and so on are also part of the whole picture.

http://ieltsliz.com/ is a high-quality and free resource produced by an experienced IELTS instructor. It has excellent videos and study materials that will help to teach about the language of this exam and winning approaches to take the IELTS.

http://howtodoielts.com/blog/ a blog by an ex-examiner David Lang where he writes about teaching and preparing for IELTS. He has lots of ‘HOW TO…’ articles on 4 skills with sample answers and tips.

The best practice exercise of all is to simply read. When students get used to reading articles from newspapers and magazines, they will have fewer problems with long articles in the test itself. Apart from National Geographic, which covers environmental issues, culture, nature and animals and is a very illustrative website with a lot of amazing pictures, BBC News, which is good for academic English and also good to keep up with current world issues and, of course, The Economist, which covers world politics, economics, science and technology, and offers 3 articles a week for free if you sign up, there are other useful resources.

Listening to English is always the best way to prepare for an English Listening Test. However, if you don’t want to bore your students by continuously listening to dry practice tests or dull old scripts, there are radio and podcasts for every category/topic, most of which can be. Pick something that interests you and your students and they will be more likely to stick to it!
